About Ben
Background
Ben studied Molecular Biology & Genetics at the University of East Anglia before gaining a place on the JET Programme and living in rural southern Japan for four years. Teaching English in two small schools in a rice farming village on the slopes of Mt. Aso on Japan's southern-most island of Kyushu was just the start of his love affair with Asia and where the travel bug firmly set in. He has since travelled to over 40 countries, some multiple times, always gathering ideas for future novels.

Into Xinjiang
Ben's debut novel, Into Xinjiang, is set in China and follows the terrifying ordeal of young British backpacker, Dan, as he finds himself embroiled in a political scandal he had no part in. Based on true events, the story is inspired by an incident that happened during Ben's first visit to China in 2003 where two young woman asked him for a photograph with them outside the Forbidden City in central Beijing. The novel includes places, characters and events from Ben's further five visits to China, pieced together to form one edge-of-your-seat thriller.
